Jamie FaganFounder, OWND

Jamie Fagan is the founder of Urban Motion and OWND, an entrepreneur, speaker and King’s Trust Ambassador. He built Urban Motion from the ground up with a mission to change the world one dance at a time, growing it into an organisation that has reached hundreds of thousands of children and young people across the UK, Ireland and internationally. Through OWND, Jamie now builds bespoke booking and business operating systems for dance schools, performing arts academies and growing businesses, helping owners reduce admin, automate operations and build technology around the way their business actually works.

Jamie built Urban Motion from the ground up with one clear mission: to change the world one dance at a time.

What began as a passion for creating opportunities for young people has grown into an organisation that has positively impacted hundreds of thousands of children and young people, delivering programmes across Northern Ireland, Ireland, the UK and internationally.

His journey has also been recognised by The King’s Trust. After first being supported through its Enterprise programme, Jamie went on to become a King’s Trust Ambassador and has since received both the King’s Trust Northern Ireland Young Changemaker Award and the Hillsborough Castle Young Changemaker Award for his work with young people.

But as Urban Motion grew, Jamie encountered a challenge that many ambitious business owners eventually face.

The business was scaling. The systems weren’t.

More customers meant more bookings. More locations meant more administration. More staff meant more processes. And before long, running the business meant juggling multiple platforms, subscriptions, payment systems, spreadsheets and repetitive manual tasks.

The software available never quite worked the way Urban Motion needed it to.

So instead of continuing to adapt the business around someone else’s software, Jamie built his own.

He created a complete operating system around the way Urban Motion actually worked — bringing bookings, memberships, payments, customers, staff, communications, automation and day-to-day operations together in one system.

The result wasn’t simply better software.

It fundamentally changed the way the business operated.

Processes were automated. Admin was dramatically reduced. The customer journey became simpler. The team had better visibility. And rather than being restricted by the features of an off-the-shelf platform, the system could evolve alongside the business.

That experience became OWND.

Today, Jamie works directly with dance schools, performing arts academies and other growing businesses to build the same kind of infrastructure around them.

He starts by understanding how the business actually operates — its customers, processes, payments, team and pain points — before identifying where technology and automation can remove friction and building a bespoke Business Operating System around it.

No forcing your business into someone else’s software. No paying forever for features you don’t need. No fixed feature list determining how your business should operate.

Just a system designed around the way your business works.

Built for you. Owned by you.

Behind the business

It starts with people.

Urban Motion is the business behind the first system Jamie built. The team, the young people and the work happening beyond the screen are the reason those everyday systems matter.
